Day 12
You can hardly tell that we are new parents:
One of Becky's new dresses:
Walking outside of our hotel towards the shopping areas:
Our hotel - the White Swan:
Jenny's baby carrier received lots of attention:
Bamboo for scaffolding:
There are statues of adoptive parents (like us) at the park:
Who the hell knows what this is supposed to commemorate... I guess the
"typical American tourist" maybe:
Jenny and I having a bite at an American-style restauraunt called
Lucy's:
These are not chickens ladies and gentleman... try pigeon. We
didn't get a chance to try it, but it is supposed to be quite tasty:
A local artisan etching Becky's picture into a sheet of granite:
Something tells me that we just contributed to a violation of
international child labor laws though:
Just one of a dozen clothing shops on the island:
A view of the "mall" running east-west along the center of the island:
A jade ship in the lobby of the White Swan. It would take a lot
of styrofoam peanuts to ship this sucker home:
Driving through Guangzhou reveals more of their western-style
transportation system:
During our entire trip, we saw maybe 4 "panhandlers". I think the
government strongly "discourages" it:
No, these cars are not parked. They are moving along at maybe
10-20 mph. So much for ADA compliance:
A quick shot inside an active jobsite. I think an OSHA inspector
would have a cardiac arrest on this one:
We visited a market that was in a predominently Moslem neighborhood:
In the market - we were shown a "demo" of extracting pearls from
freshwater shellfish:
We took the subway back to the hotel. Guangzhou subway is the
newest in Asia (although not that extensive):
The trains are isolated from the platform by fixed doors (similar to an
airport terminal train):
It goes without saying that Jenny and I felt like giants most of the
time:
Walking from the subway station to the hotel - walking though an "herb
market":
A final dinner with all of the families:
Jenny feeding Becky steamed rice:
Jenny feeding herself steamed rice:
